Our aim is to show you how to develop beautiful living rooms and we’ll try to do it one more time. We found this article at Elle Decor and we fell in love. A standing ovation to the interior designer Stacey Cohen for the great work she did here.
The dark fireplace and oversized built-in cabinets in the family room were two of the most important elements to work with, and the base of all the transformation.
The plan was to keep it simple and clean, and like Cohen says, the plan for this family room was to get a sophisticated and timeless space.
«The fireplace sat at an awkward angle, but moving it could have resulted in mechanical complications, and the built-ins completely overwhelmed the space. Both fixtures left the room feeling disjointed and thrown together, far from a cohesive spot for the family to gather.»

The room’s transformation started by replacing the built-ins by a hand-sculpted silver leaf cabinet and covering the fireplace in a beautiful limestone by Maro Bianco.
Banana leaf wallpaper was used in the rest of the room to mimic the fireplace’s new look, and furniture clad in various neutral tones rounded out the family living room.
