2016 might not have been the perfect year, but it sure did bring us some crazy beautiful living room decor ideas that completely stayed with us. In the Hamptons home of Dominique Lévy and Dorothy Berwin, the living room features artworks by Anselm Reyle, Ugo Rondinone, and Zhu Jinshi, as well as a double recamier by Rick Owens and a vintage Vladimir Kagan sofa.
Works by James Lee Byars are installed on the far wall of the guest apartment’s living room in the Los Angeles home of Beth Rudin DeWoody and Firooz Zahedi.
In Brigitte Romanek’s Hollywood manse, the living room is outfitted with a pair of Marco Zanuso lounge chairs from Eccola, a Blackman Cruz console, and a Hans Wegner chaise longue.

In a Connecticut home designed by Mark Cunningham, an RH sectional sofa anchors the media room, whose walls are coated in Fine Paints of Europe’s WC-86 blue. Among the room’s red accent pieces are a 1950s Pierre Guariche armchair, a ’30s André Sornay stool, and a vintage leather floor lamp by Jacques Adnet.
In Ginevra Caltagirone’s Manhattan apartment—decorated by Count Manfredi della Gherardesca—the living room walls feature an Anish Kapoor blot sculpture, a David Hammons body print, and a Bill Viola video diptych. A Harlequin linen was used for the Roman shades, and the sheep-shaped bar is a François-Xavier Lalanne classic.
In the living room of a Maine home designed by Suzanne Kasler and architect Les Cole, a Raoul Textiles print curtains French doors by Marvin Windows and Doors; the Hickory Chair sectional sofa is clad in a Kravet fabric, the cocktail table and kilim-covered bench are from Wisteria, and the rug is by Mary McDonald for Patterson Flynn Martin.
In an Aspen, Colorado, home designed by Shawn Henderson and architect Scott Lindenau, the living room’s club chairs, Jean Royère–inspired sofa, cocktail table, and carpet were all custom designed by Henderson. The vintage Hans Wegner spindle-back chair is from Wyeth.
Set on a rug by Beauvais Carpets in the living room are a pair of vintage Jean-Michel Frank armchairs, kidney-shaped cocktail tables by Mimi London, and a bespoke double-sided sofa upholstered in a Clarence House linen; the bright cushions are of a silk ikat by Jim Thompson.
In the Florida home of baseball star Alex Rodriguez, the living room’s blackened-steel panels make a rugged backdrop for a Keith Haring painting above a Spark Modern Fires fireplace and a Gérard Van Kal Mon sculpture from Holly Hunt; to the right is an Andy Warhol portrait of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Surrounding the custom-made cocktail table in the living room of architect Lee Ledbetter’s New Orleans home are a pair of Harvey Probber brass armchairs upholstered in a KnollTextiles fabric, two Louis XVI–style fauteuils in a Holly Hunt leather, a vintage T. In Holly Hunt’s Chicago apartment, a massive Helen Frankenthaler canvas faces a Louise Nevelson sculptural work across the living room. At center, a Holly Hunt Studio cocktail table topped with a John Chamberlain sculpture joins a Holly Hunt leather sofa cushioned in a Great Plains velvet and a pair of Paul Mathieu chairs upholstered in an Edelman leather.
In the living room of Kourtney Kardashian’s California home, designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Christian Liaigre sofas dressed in a Schumacher wool and a Larsen leather are joined by a Steinway piano, a vintage Oscar Niemeyer chair and ottoman from Wyeth, and several custom-designed pieces.
In a Kentucky estate designed by architect Joel Barkley and Todd Klein, the blue striations on the living room’s handmade silk wall covering by Gracie inspired the rest of the space’s palette.
