With over 15 years of active work, this interior designer has been working on projects from New York to Paris and capturing the attention of various prestigious international magazines such as Vogue and Architectural Digest.
After conquering the French market for more than a decade ago with Boutique Concept Ethnic, she decided to export her distinctive style into the heart of Soho, New York.
Always attempting to achieve balance between the traditional and the contemporary, Matsika has always introduced an innovative fusion of both as well as a multicultural approach to her design style.
On the one hand, she combines her African background into her work, along with her French upbringing and Anglo-Saxon traits that she gets from being based in New York. On the other hand, she also enjoys bringing together her taste for European Antiques, Asian and African Art.
It is no surprise that, to her, the most important aspects of a project are the lighting, the rugs and the artwork. This where Matsika finds the true spirit of a project and is indeed where the multiculturalism that inspires her really shines through.
Her most recent project was the renovation of the hotel Palacio Can Marqués, an 18th century hotel in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Naturally, Matsika brought forward her multicultural approach and worked with various products from the island, selected European suppliers from Portugal for the furniture, Italy for the lighting and many unique pieces from the Flea Market in Paris.
The result was an astonishing fusion of different eras with contemporary furniture and antique artwork, as well as various different cultural elements that came together into a total renovation of the 18th century palace.
